The year 2016 marks the 250th anniversary of the Freedom of the Press Act which was issued in the kingdom of Sweden. It still constitutes an essential part of the constitution of both Sweden and Finland. The introduction of the Act can largely be credited to the scholar Peter Forsskål and politician Anders Chydenius. They were both born in Finland, which was then a part of the Swedish kingdom.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Freedome of the Press Act Finland and Sweden are organizing a series of seminars on the subject from different perspectives.

The first seminar will take place on Thursday the 13th of April at 10am with a focus on the historical aspect. It will include speechess and a panel discussion.

After the seminar a light lunch will be served at the residence of the Finnish Embassy and the discussion can be continued.
