New Jazz from Finland - Timo Lassy Trio

Timo Lassy plays the saxophone like he means it. Listen to him, and you hear someone fully dedicated to his art, no matter the context. Timo is the recipient of Finland’s EMMA Award for Jazz Album of the Year and the prestigious Yrjö Prize for Jazz Musician of the Year. His work has also earned praise from influential tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson and DownBeat.

Timo’s current focus is the Timo Lassy Trio, a stripped-down yet fiercely expressive ensemble featuring bassist Ville Herrala and drummer Jaska Lukkarinen. The trio’s dynamic interplay and deep musical connection are at the heart of both their 2021 studio debut Trio and its acclaimed follow-up, the live album Live in Helsinki, released by We Jazz Records in 2025.

Whether performing on stage or recording in the studio, the trio combines hard-grooving jazz, raw improvisation, and emotional depth. Their sound is firmly rooted in tradition while remaining boldly forward-looking. With sold-out performances and growing international recognition, the Timo Lassy Trio demonstrates that jazz played from the heart resonates with audiences everywhere.
