The HEAVY LACE exhibition is dedicated to the old handicraft tradition of Finnish Roma women. It is produced by the Nordic Roma Museum of Finland, and it consists of historical lace collected by textile artist Helena Grönfors as well as on the museum's own collections. The exhibition is realized in cooperation with FinnAgora- the Finnish institute in Hungary, with Bura gallery of Budapest and the Oulu2026 European Capital of Culture project.

The exhibition presents the rich lace tradition of the Finnish Roma over the last hundred years. In addition to embroidered home textiles, the exhibition offers an insight into the lives of lace embroiderers in the 1960s and 1970s through documentary photographs by Ismo Hölttö, Mikko Savolainen and Jaakko Vilponen as well as audiovisual art work by the curator of the exhibition, film director Katariina Lillqvist.

The exhibition is open from the 22nd of August until the 7th of September Monday to Saturday from 15-19.

Warmly welcome!
