FinnAgora, in collaboration with Lehetőségek tere, warmly invites you to a Finno-Ugric film screening to mark the closing of Finnish comic artist Sanna Hukkanen’s exhibition.
Film Program:
Suvi West – Eatnameamet (2021), 1h 14min
Egil Pedersen – Sea Sámi See (2013), 13min
August Joensalo – The Rootless (2023), 12min
Eatnameamet – Our Silent Struggle is a political documentary exposing the Finnish government's assimilation and colonization policies towards the Sámi people. The film tells a universal story, reflecting the experiences of many Indigenous communities and minorities across the Finno-Ugric region and beyond.
Through the following short films, we will also explore the lives of the Sea Sámi, who live by the northern coast, and the Karelian minority in Finland, delving into how cultural identity is preserved and passed down through generations.
At the exhibition, visitors have the last opportunity to view Sanna Hukkanen’s published travel diary and selected highlights from it, as well as a selection of “action” comics created in 13 different Finno-Ugric minority languages. We have also displayed the comics produced during the workshop held in the Space of Possibilities, where participants explored topics relevant to their own communities – ranging from the long journey of the Roma people, pollution of the Danube, and migration from Hungary abroad, to a critique of “family-friendly” Hungary
